Wheelchair Basketball Documentary In The Making

We’re making a documentary that takes you inside the lives of the Miami Heat Wheels and their quest for a National Championship. The film documents the challenging journeys of disabled athletes and the positive impact that being active has on overcoming the trials of everyday life – by pushing through.

Team History

The Miami Heat Wheels wheelchair basketball team is in their 17th year of existence. Since 1998, Miami-Dade County Parks Disability Services and the Leisure Access Foundation have provided a way for these athletes to achieve their highest potential.

To provide opportunities to participate, learn, and develop the skills to play wheelchair basketball to persons with physical disabilities of the lower extremities.

Enrich the lives of the participants and the community through the participation and growth of wheelchair basketball throughout Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and the United States. Future plans include additional wheelchair basketball programs in South Florida for the Junior, Collegiate, Women’s and Championship levels.
